Our Story

The People and Purpose Behind Beautiful Sunsets

Why We’re Called Beautiful Sunsets

The name Beautiful Sunsets was born on the deck of our Escondido home. As the sun dipped below the horizon and cast a warm glow across the sky, our founders realized it wasn’t just a beautiful view—it was a reflection of what they wanted this home to offer.

These are the sunset years: quieter, slower, and full of meaning. They’re the soft glow after a long, full day.

That’s what Beautiful Sunsets is all about: honoring the later chapters of life with compassion, comfort, and care that goes deeper.

More Than Care—It’s A Commitment

We believe your loved one deserves more than just a safe place to live. They deserve a home that brings out their best. A place that listens. A place where care plans are personalized, comfort is prioritized, and sunsets are truly beautiful.

Meet Our Founders

Dr. Henry Richardson is a board-certified Pain Management and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation specialist who founded Beautiful Sunsets to redefine what aging in comfort can mean.

With over 15 years of experience helping seniors manage chronic pain, he saw firsthand how many older adults suffer needlessly in traditional care settings—where issues like arthritis, back pain, or neuropathy are often treated as afterthoughts.

Driven by a dual passion for medicine and hospitality, Dr. Richardson envisioned something better: a place where older adults could feel at home, yet still receive thoughtful, expert care. A place where chronic pain wouldn’t steal joy from the golden years.

In 2024, that vision became a reality with the opening of Beautiful Sunsets—a physician-guided community grounded in both clinical insight and deep compassion.

His career has spanned roles as Medical Director for pain clinics and supervising hospice and skilled nursing facilities, giving him a unique understanding of how unaddressed pain can erode both mobility and joy in the years when quality of life matters most.

What truly sets Dr. Richardson apart is the heart behind his credentials. Families and staff alike describe him as an empathetic listener, a down-to-earth presence, and “a doctor who treats you like family.”

His mission is simple but powerful: to make sure no senior has to choose between top-notch medical oversight and a warm, joyful home environment.

Dr. Angelique Richardson is a board-certified medical oncologist and internal medicine physician with over 13 years of experience caring for adults and seniors.

Her work has always been rooted in whole-person care, and her passion for supporting older adults was shaped long before she became a doctor.

Growing up, Dr. Richardson watched her mother work as a caregiver in residential care homes—offering seniors not just assistance, but dignity and love. That early exposure to compassionate elder care stayed with her.

Years later, when her grandfather was diagnosed with dementia and entered an assisted living home, Dr. Richardson experienced the family side of the journey. She saw what mattered most: trust, communication, and quality care.

At Beautiful Sunsets, she brings both clinical expertise and deep personal insight to everything she does. From helping develop wellness protocols to shaping how care is delivered day to day, Dr. Richardson ensures each resident is seen, supported, and treated like family.

Her medical background, combined with her lived experience, gives families the confidence that their loved ones are truly in good hands—and in a place that values not just health, but humanity.
